Two search dogs from Dunedin travelled to Te Anau on 21 February 2015 to assist in an on-going search for a German tourist reported missing by the water taxi operator who was supposed to pick her up at Manpouri. When she failed to meet the water taxi at the agreed time on Thursday 19 Feb, the alarm was raised.
Dermot/Finn and Emma/Dart travelled to Te Anau to assist in the search, along with specialised tracking teams from Dunedin SAR.
Dermot and Finn were able to assist for two days, and Emma assisted for a third day.
No trace of the missing person was found by anyone, despite an extensive search lasting 5 days.
It was later discovered that the person had left the area by other means, and had continued her tour of New Zealand oblivious of the consternation she had created.
This was the best result possible - the person was alive and well, and the search teams did an excellent job of not finding her - she wasn't there to find, so they were spot on in their reporting.
Good job all involved!
